I’m Moving!

Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve blogged! This year has brought lots of busyness and new changes that have kept me away from this little outlet.

There are some pretty major things to announce in my world lately. If you haven’t already heard, I will be moving later this year to Prague, Czech Republic! It’s been a wild ride and this change has come about somewhat quickly and unexpectedly, but it’s been so, so good and I’m constantly amazed at what the Lord is doing to bring this about.

The short -story version: Last summer, I went on a 2 week mission trip to southeast Asia. Throughout that trip and when I returned home, I felt unusually burdened about the great need for the gospel in so many places around the world. I think I’ve always thought that I would be moving overseas “someday”, but for the first time, I began to sense the Lord challenging me to consider “now”.  As I began praying about how God would have me respond to this need, I quickly heard about a church planting team forming to go to Prague, Czech Republic. As I began attending team meetings, I got more and more excited about the vision of planting disciple-making communities in Czech Republic. It’s a tall order, but I am convinced that the church is still God’s primary tool to spread His fingerprints throughout the world, and I want to be a part of it!

In the coming months I’ll be sharing more about what I’ll be doing and the whys and hows of choosing Prague. For now, I just want to share a few immediate things that will be looking a bit different. I am gradually phasing out of photography and am committed to finishing out what I already have scheduled for the spring. I am no longer booking weddings for 2012 and will be scheduling just a few portrait sessions between now and May. Please let me know by April 15, if you are interested in a family or senior portrait session! I will continue taking scheduling sessions through early May!

Otherwise, my schedule for the coming months is as follows:

Now- Fall 2012 – Developing a financial support team. Meeting with friends and family in NW Arkansas, Dallas, Missouri, and various locations as they            arise.

April 22, 2012 – Commissioning at Fellowship Bible Church NWA

June-July 2012 – Summer training in North Carolina

October 2012 – My hopeful move date!

November 2012 – Begin Czech language classes in Prague!

Arkansas Wedding: Erin+Brad

A Love Worth Waiting For… This was the theme of Erin and Brad’s much-anticipated wedding. Our friend group has been brimming with excitement for this day. You see, Erin and Brad’s story is one of those stories that you don’t hear too often; one that involves lots of prayer, lots of waiting, and LOTS of trusting the One who directs our paths and works all things together for good. I don’t know if anyone could have guessed that Erin and Brad’s story would turn out the way it did, but on this day, there was no doubt that it turned out right and VERY good.

Lots and lots and LOTS of work went into planning this special day and no detail was left undone. Erin had always dreamed of a barn wedding and her mother and friends made sure that she got all that she wanted and more! This was such a great day of laughter, fun, a few happy tears, and DANCING!

Seeing each other for the first time. I took a few shots and then gave Brad and Erin some time to themselves. Such a special moment!

One of my favorite shots from the day! Pure happiness!

One of my favorite details from the wedding was the wall of frames. Such a stunning backdrop!

For their reception, Brad and Erin had a square dance. That’s right, a SQUARE DANCE! What a great idea! The guests loved it and… I just can’t say enough about Caller Bob – He’s the best!

Erin and Brad, You both are such a huge encouragement and inspiration to me – and it was an honor to photograph your wedding day. Thank you! I’ve loved getting to know you more each step along the way and look forward to all that the future holds for you!

Fayetteville, AR Photographer: Meet Libby

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of going over to my friend Lee’s house to help welcome their daughter Libby into the family. As you can imagine, as the first girl with two older brothers, her arrival has caused quite a sweet stir. Isn’t she the most precious thing?!! I just love this family! Congratulations Lee and Clay!

I’ve been blessed to photograph each of the boys when they were babies as well and I just love ‘em. They wanted to get a few pictures in their cowboy costumes, so we headed outside. Yee Haw!

Fayetteville Photographer: It’s Asa’s Birthday!

I can’t resist showing a few pictures of this precious little man Asa. He got his own special little photo shoot to celebrate his 1st birthday coming up later this month! Isn’t he adorable?! We’ll also be using a few family photos from this shoot for Christmas cards. I don’t want to spoil the surprise, so I can’t reveal them now, but I absolutely can’t wait!

For now, enjoy staring at this cute little face!

Rainy Day Recipe

There’s not much that beats a plate of hot chocolate chip cookies on a gray, rainy day like today. Growing up, CCC’s were a staple in our home and a favorite that my brother Matt and I always liked to make. My favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe was birthed out of one of our childhood baking days. As kids, he and I were always really competitive. We always had a little competition going to see who could cook the best and he usually won. What made me mad is that he would a lot of times mess up the recipe, but it would still turn out better than it would have if he had followed the directions. One day, while making cookies, he accidentally grabbed maple flavoring out of the cabinet instead of vanilla. I didn’t admit it at the time, but the cookies were delish and I continue to use maple flavoring as my “secret” ingredient in most cookie recipes ( I don’t think I even have vanilla in my cabinet).

I’ve made this recipe bunches over the years and have tweaked and tested it many ways. This is the absolute best I’ve found. Give it a try and let me know what you think!

Chocolate Chip Cookies

2 sticks butter softened (no substitutes)

3/4 c. sugar

3/4 c. brown sugar

1 egg (many recipes call for 2, but I’m convinced that 1 egg is the key to them not going flat)

1 tsp. maple flavoring

1 tsp. salt

1 tsp baking soda

2 1/4 c. flour

handful of oatmeal

chocolate chips

pecans or walnuts (optional)

Cream butter and sugar. Add egg and maple flavor and mix well. Stir in salt, baking soda, and flour…

Toss in a handful or two of oatmeal for texture

Throw in some chocolate chips, nuts, dried fruit or whatever else you want…

Mix it all up…

Drop onto the cookie sheet and bake at 375 degrees for 7-8 minutes…

Enjoy!
